Our story

A dream becomes stronger when a team believes in it.

Team Dunk is a youth-development nonprofit using basketball, mentorship and creative storytelling to help young people build skills, confidence and purpose.

Why we exist

Every child needs space to grow

Team Dunk uses the power of basketball to connect with young people — then takes the lesson beyond the court.

Through basketball, mentorship, creative storytelling, music and interactive experiences, we help youth build confidence, teamwork, discipline, perseverance and life skills they can carry wherever they go.

From local communities to schools in Ghana and even the virtual world of Dunkiverse, Team Dunk creates fun, meaningful ways for young people to learn, grow and dream bigger.

Coach Alico Dunk

Co-Founder & Program Director

Coach Alico Dunk brings a lifetime of basketball experience to Team Dunk—from playing the game professionally to coaching, mentoring and developing the next generation of young athletes.

After his professional playing career, Coach Dunk transitioned into coaching, where his passion for the game became a passion for teaching. His approach goes beyond basketball fundamentals, using the sport to instill discipline, teamwork, confidence, perseverance and leadership—skills young people can carry far beyond the court.

In 2025, Coach Dunk was named HBCU Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, recognizing his leadership, coaching excellence and commitment to developing winning teams and winning mindsets.

As Co-Founder and Program Director of Team Dunk, he helps shape and lead the organization’s youth basketball programs, clinics and international initiatives, including Team Dunk’s work with schools and young athletes in Ghana.

For Coach Dunk, basketball has always been more than a game. It is a powerful tool to teach, mentor and inspire young people to reach their full potential—on and off the court.

Simone Harris, Team Dunk co-founder

Simone Harris

Co-Founder & Executive Director

With a lifelong love of basketball and a passion for creating opportunities for young people, Simone Harris is the entrepreneurial and creative force behind Team Dunk. She has helped transform that passion into a growing youth organization that brings together sports, education, mentorship, storytelling, technology and international outreach.

As Co-Founder and Executive Director, Simone leads the vision and development of Team Dunk—building partnerships, developing programs and creating new ways to connect with young people both on and beyond the basketball court.

Her creative vision has expanded Team Dunk far beyond traditional youth programming. Simone has helped develop the organization’s original characters, stories, music and educational content, as well as Dunkiverse, Team Dunk’s interactive world on Roblox, where basketball, imagination and positive learning come together through play and exploration.

Simone also spearheaded the expansion of Team Dunk Ghana, helping take the organization’s mission directly to schools and young athletes through basketball clinics, tournaments, mentorship and ongoing youth-development initiatives.

With a background in entrepreneurship, business development, creative production and community engagement, Simone has a talent for bringing ideas, people and opportunities together—and turning vision into action.

At the heart of her work is a belief that has guided Team Dunk from the beginning: give young people the opportunity to discover what is possible, and their dreams can grow far beyond the court.
